A prisoner who gained notoriety after being filmed having sex with a prison officer has been seriously injured in an attack whilst holding his three-month-old baby.

Linton Weirich sustained head injuries during a violent assault at Category B Swaleside Prison on the Isle of Sheppey in December.

The incident occurred during a visit from his girlfriend, when another inmate allegedly punched Weirich in the head, causing him to fall onto his infant child.

Both Weirich and the baby, who suffered a fractured skull, were taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Police have identified a suspect, though no arrests have been made.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “It is reported a prisoner was punched by another inmate in an area used for visitors. The victim sustained head injuries and fell onto a three-month-old baby he had been holding.”

“The baby suffered a fractured skull but has since been discharged from hospital. The suspect has been identified and an investigation is ongoing,” the spokesman added.

A Prison Service spokesman said: “Police are investigating an assault on a prisoner at HMP Swaleside on December 18. It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate.”

The attack took place after Weirich was moved from HMP Wandsworth following the viral video incident.

Weirich is currently serving a four-and-a-half-year sentence for a £650,000 burglary at a flat in Kensington.

In June last year, he was filmed by another prisoner having sex with Linda De Sousa Abreu, a married prison officer, inside his cell at HMP Wandsworth.

The footage was later uploaded to social media and went viral, leading to an investigation by prison authorities.

De Sousa Abreu, 30, was subsequently arrested at Heathrow Airport as she attempted to board a flight to Madrid with her father.

The incident led to Weirich’s transfer to Swaleside Prison.

Last week, De Sousa Abreu was sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of misconduct in public office.

During the investigation, additional evidence emerged when a recording of her performing a sex act with Weirich was discovered on her prison-issue body-worn camera.

At her sentencing hearing at Isleworth Crown Court, De Sousa Abreu admitted to having sex with Weirich on a separate occasion.
