During the chillier months, drying clothes without a tumble dryer can seem like a hugely difficult task. However, a simple trick promises to make it a breeze, drying your wet laundry in just 15 minutes.

The inability to dry clothes outdoors can often result in a musty smell, but this innovative method guarantees quick and efficient drying. The “game changing” hack was shared online by TikToker Tee @tee_diaz01, who uses two key techniques.

Firstly, she employs an old-fashioned method of “smacking” the damp clothes against the side of the bath. Then, she gets creative and constructs a DIY dryer using common household items that most people will already have at home.

She then used a laundry basket with holes, hanging some of her laundry on coat hangers inside the basket. She then inserts the basket within a large laundry bag, leaving a small opening at the top.

The next step involves inserting a hairdryer into the gap and giving the washing a swift 15-minute blast of hot air to aid drying. According to Tee, this is sufficient to ensure the clothes inside are completely dry, reports the Mirror.

She highlights that this hack is especially handy when you need a specific item of clothing dried quickly.

However, before attempting this hack yourself, it’s crucial to ensure your laundry basket is heat-resistant. Failing to do so could result in the plastic warping from the hairdryer’s heat, potentially damaging your clothes and posing a fire risk.

Experts have also recently imparted a straightforward tip that could speed up the drying process of your clothes. Home energy specialist Andy Threlfall recommends an extra spin cycle in the washing machine before hanging up laundry to dry, as this can significantly wring out residual moisture, easing the drying time on airers within your home.

Threlfall advised: “It is essential to ventilate a room when drying laundry given the incredible volume of water vapour that is released into the home (around five litres). This will have the added benefit of not only helping your clothes dry faster because of increased air circulation, it will help stop your clothes from smelling damp.

“If possible, I would also recommend running your laundry through an additional spin cycle to ensure as much water as possible is spun out, especially for heavier items such as jeans, towels or hoodies.”
