A vegan cafe on Whiteladies Road has announced it is to close. The Not Found Kitchen, sister company to 404 Bakes in the same venue, took to its Instagram page to announce the news.

It said: “After a pretty chaotic couple of years, we’ve decided it’s time to close our doors to the public. We’re back open tomorrow for another two weeks, but Sunday 19th January will be our last day trading as a cafe.

“We have felt so much love and support from our customers over the last year and we know many of you will be disappointed by the decision. But this isn’t the end for The Not Found Kitchen by any means – keep an eye on our socials for events we’ll be hosting at our site on Whiteladies Road later on in the year.

“We’ll be operating at slightly reduced hours for the next two weeks as we begin to wind down, so join us from 11am-4pm Weds-Sun for your final focaccia fixes and farewells. A huge thank you to our wonderful team for making TNFK the special place it was, sticking with us through the madness and just generally putting up with our BS.

“Onto sweeter things- you’ll still be able to grab a slice of @404.bakes cakes from cafes all around town once we’re closed. We’ll be accepting more celebration cake, wholesale customers, pre-orders and wedding bookings than ever. If you’re interested in hiring our space or looking for outside catering in 2025 then do get in touch – we’re open for bookings.”

According to its website, 404 Bakes creates celebration cakes, wholesale treats and even wedding cakes – all of which are 100 per cent plant-based.

Taking to the comments section, fans and locals were quick to share their sadness at the news. One said: “I will need three months to grieve and process this news. Love to you both and totally get why you’re doing it even though I’m selfishly gutted.”

A second commented: “Such sad news – best sandwiches in town, but best of luck with what’s to come next,” while a third wrote: “Coughing spluttering screaming” alongside a string of sad and shocked emojis.

And there was even a message from fellow local vegan establishment, VeBurger, which wrote: “We’re very sad to hear this – wishing you the best for what’s next.”
