A hairless puppy that was found covered with writing at a homeless encampment in California was rescued in the nick of time.
Workers with Hungry Tailz Rescue, based in Stockton, Calif., were feeding pets at a homeless encampment when a woman asked if they could help with one troubled pooch.
“She described the puppy as hairless with words written all over her,” the nonprofit organization wrote in a Facebook post.
“When she brought Naya out, it was no exaggeration.”
Hungry Tailz workers brought Naya to the veterinarian for treatment, telling Newsweek that the pup was suffering from mange caused by mites, which can be passed down from mother to puppy shortly after birth.
The condition leads to fur loss and can rapidly spread when a dog has a weakened immune system.
Naya’s issues were likely due to the conditions she had been living in, a result of the conditions she had been living in, the publication reported.
Hungry Tailz, which aims to “end the suffering of street cats and dogs,” gave Naya a flea and tick treatment to kill the mites, as well as a medicated bath to help remove the ink that was “someone cruelly drew all over her body and face,” they noted in another Facebook post.
Naya is expected to make a full recovery.
The rescue shared on their social media platforms that a foster family is “urgently” needed to take the adorable pooch into their home “where she can safely heal.”
