Mould, particularly the notorious black variety, is a common issue in many households, and I’ve found it challenging to eradicate from my spare room’s walls and ceiling.
Not only is the presence of mould spores an eyesore, but they can also provoke allergic reactions by triggering your immune system.
Despite my efforts with baking soda, vinegar, and bleach, I had no success in removing the mould, leading me to try a specialised mould remover.
I chose a product touted as “10 times better than bleach” – Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover. It’s available for £3 From Poundland, £4 from supermarkets like Tesco, and £4 on Amazon.
Encouraged by reviews from Mrs Hinch enthusiasts praising its effectiveness against mould, I was optimistic that this solution would be effective, reports the Express.
The Cillit Bang website describes the product as: “The powerful formula of Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover is Britain’s number one black mould remover and removes 100 percent of visible black mould.”
It further claims: “Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover also has 10 times more cleaning power than pure bleach for a sparkling clean and healthy home.”
Before using the mould remover, I ensured the room was well-ventilated by opening all windows and wore a mask to avoid inhaling any chemicals.
However, I neglected to wear gloves before spraying, which is advisable to prevent the chemicals from contacting your skin.
To apply the spray, I set the nozzle to the “on” position, held the trigger straight and sprayed from a distance of about 20cm away from the affected surfaces.
Be cautious not to press the trigger when it’s in the “off” position as it may cause the product to spit upon being turned “on”.
Within a mere minute of using the spray, most of the mould had disappeared on its own. When I came back to it after another two minutes, I easily wiped the area clean and the residual mould lifted off without effort.
There was no harsh scrubbing necessary for the walls or ceiling, and pleasingly, the paint remained unaffected.
Next, I simply rinsed out the cloth and went over the spot once more to clear away any remaining chemicals and dissipate the odour quicker.
After eliminating the mould with this spray, I’ve taken to applying it monthly as a preventive measure an approach that has proved to be remarkably effective.
Alternatively, there are other mould sprays on the market that cleaning fans have found success with like the HG Mould remover which retails for £4.60 on Amazon or the Astonish Mould Blaster which can be picked up for £2 down from £2.50 currently at Dunelm.
