The Masked Singer was “thrown into chaos” when a celebrity stormed off the stage after being voted out of the competition.
Host Joel Dommett was left stunned, as were panel members Maya Jama, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and guest judge Suranne Jones, Toad in the Hole made an abrupt exit.
The sixth series of the Masked Singer kicked off last week (January 4) and on Saturday (January 11), five contestants took to the stage. After all acts had performed, the studio audience voted for their favourite character.
Bear and Toad in the Hole landed in the bottom two and had to perform again in a sing-off. The panel then voted for their favourite act with Bear going through to the next round of the competition as Toad in the Hole was sent home.
As Joel confirmed Bear had been voted to stay, Toad in the Hole walked off the stage before they could take their mask off leaving the panel and viewers at home shocked.
Moments later, the character returned to stage and was revealed to be American singer Macy Gray who did not look impressed about leaving the reality show.
The Masked Singer viewers rushed to social media to brand the incident as “awkward” with one person writing on X: “Well that was awkward… #maskedsingeruk”, reports the Mirror.
A second added: “Wow is Macy Gray really that heartbroken that she’s been kicked off Masked Singer”, while a third chimed in: “Oh everyone looks so awkward. She walked off stage. cannot deal #maskedsingeruk #maskedsinger.”
Another viewer shared: “Did anyone else feel awkward watching the last few minutes of that .. Macy Gray pls #maskedsingeruk”.
The Masked Singer currently airs every Saturday on ITV and ITX
