A 29-year-old woman is accused of a violent downtown attack and deliberately setting fire to a residence on Friday.
Toronto Police say officers responded to a fire call in the area of Sherbourne and Shuter Sts. around 11:20 a.m.
“It is alleged that an altercation took place between a woman and the victim,” Const. Ashley Visser said in a statement released Saturday. “The woman stabbed the victim and set fire to a residence.”
She said the victim was taken to hospital with “serious” injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.
A suspect was subsequently identified and arrested a short time later.
Nakitha Smith, of Toronto, is charged with aggravated assault and two counts of arson.
She was expected to appear in court for a bail hearing on Saturday.
