Two people were found dead inside of a Mississauga townhouse on Friday morning.

Peel Regional Police said officers responded to a “sudden death” call at the home on The Avenues – northwest of Erin Mills Pkwy and Credit Valley Rd. – just before 5 a.m. and located the bodies

But cops offered no further details about the deaths.

Ewen Fernie, who has lived on the street for 30 years, said a husband and wife lived in the neighbouring home and he had spoken to the man a lot in the past. But those conversations had diminished after his neighbour had become combative.

“He used to come out (recently), but I just hide in my garage to smoke now,” said Fernie, explaining his neighbour would frequently want to talk with him but then try to goad him into an argument.

Fernie said the man’s wife suffered a stroke a few years back and had lost her vision.

Since that time, he claimed the police had been called to the house after his neighbour became verbally “abusive” and “threatened to take people out.”

Fernie went on to say the police had been there “two or three times” that he can remember.

Ken Haslan, another neighbour who had just come home from grocery shopping, described the couple as nice people but echoed the same sentiments Fernie spoke about.

Haslan said he thinks his neighbours may have been married for about 10 to 15 years.

“They always had a good relationship until COVID hit,” he said. “Her mother died and I think the finalization was when the blindness came about two years before COVID came.”

“The cops were here numerous times,” said Haslan, who didn’t know why police had been to the couple’s home.

“He would always grab a beer and come down (the street) when I was working on the car or the bike,” Haslan added.

Haslan said he didn’t think anything nefarious could happen because the husband and wife always seemed good together and in September 2024 they went to a big rock concert and enjoyed themselves.

He went on to say the couple did separate last summer for three months, but everything seemed to have returned to normal.

Haslan said he knew the neighbour’s wife had caregivers coming three times a day to help her out and even knew the times as he saw them coming and going.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, two coroner’s vans left the street with police with two bodies that had been removed from the home.

Shortly after that a woman arrived at the house and spoke to a uniformed officer parked in the front driveway.

She waved off reporters when she was asked if she was a relative of the residents in the home, and then she drove away in her vehicle.
