Many of us have implemented little changes over the last few years to try and ensure our homes and habits are as eco-friendly as possible. One switch that many women have been doing is swapping out their plastic razors for ones that are more sustainable – and one brand making waves in this space is female-led company Nimbi, which specialises in disposable razors.
Launching in October 2024 and founded by Anna Reid, the razors by Nimbi are bio-based and made from 100% compostable materials – such as waste wood pulp cellulose, clay, pine oil and natural organic pigments.
Claiming to deliver the smoothest shave, whether that be under your arms, on your legs or your bikini lines, the Nimbi razors a re designed to be ‘perfectly angled to glide through pubic, leg, facial and underarm hair with acute precision’. This means less in-grown hairs, shaving bumps and a silky smooth finish, even for the ‘longest and coarsest of hair’.
A pack of four is priced at £6.99, making the razor just £1.75 a pop and comes in two different aesthetically pleasing tones – neutral clay and chic slate. Speaking about the razor blade, the brand said: “Our unique premium blade lasts longer than multiple cheap blades, eliminating surplus steel, reducing the carbon footprint, as well as visual complexity.”
Speaking about the sustainability of the razor, Nimbi added: “Nimbi offers functional, reliable, daily products that will not disrupt your home environment, as well as the natural ecosystem.”
With no lubrication strips that are ‘typically made from polystyrene pads coated in lanolin’, the razor is 100% vegan and natural – although be mindful that it may take a few goes to get it right, as some shoppers have shared.
Available on Amazon and on the brand’s website, it’s seems to be a real hit with those wanting to do their bit for the environment whilst finding a better and closer shave. One five star fan of the brand shared how the razors were a ‘pleasing alternative to plastic’ and raved: “I love the simplicity of these razors – turns out you don’t need multiple blades to get smooth legs! Nimbi razor + a little more rinsing and mindfulness = all you need. Plus, no plastic AND pleasing to the eye. Tick, tick, tick.”
Another gushed: “My friend recommended the Nimbi razor to me and I can’t recommend it highly enough! It provides a very smooth shave. I have sensitive skin and so I find shaving tricky with some other well known brands. But I am so pleased to say that this one doesn’t bring me out in bumpy rashes even on my underarm and bikini line. I’m a 100% convert and from an eco point of view, it’s amazing to know that it’s compostable too. Big thumbs up here.”
One happy customer was left ‘genuinely surprised’ after using the single blade Nimbi razor and remarked: “I’ve just switched from using my BICs, and the Nimbi razor has been great. After a bit of practice, the shave feels as good if not better than what I was used to. Rinsing it is so much easier too compared to the multi-blade razors I’ve used before.
“It’s super sharp, so take it easy at first asit requires a bit more skill and light pressure, but the results are great, extremely smooth. Also knowing I’m not adding any plastic to landfills is great. I’d fully recommend it to anyone looking for a disposable, eco friendly shave.”
One word of warning from a number of shoppers is that it may not be the best for facial shaving, as attested by one Nimbi user who said: “I tried these for a facial shave and it was not good. I really had to angle the handle very close to my face to get it to cut. It shaves in a very very gentle way. The finish was not very close and did look a bit patchy. I ended up stretching the skin to try and get a closer finish which again is not good as it encourages in growing hairs.”
They added: “For lighter hair or body hair these would be far better. There’s no hydration strip but the material itself feels softer and the blade is tucked away to make it a less aggressive shave.”
Echoing this, the Nimbi razor ‘exceeded’ the expectations of another shopper who said: “Absolutely thrilled with my purchase from Nimbi. The quality of shave exceeded my expectations and made even better by knowing I am doing my normal routine with a lessened impact on the environment. Plus I love the product design as well as the branding. All exceptional. Will definitely be returning and can’t recommend enough.”
While shoppers can stock up on razors alone, the brand also offers a bundle, The Everything Shower – Personal Care Bathing Bundle, which comes with an exfoliating dry body brush, a solid shaving foam puck with shea butter as well as the four plastic-free razors for £18. Alternatively, if you already have the Nimbi razors, the brand’s shaving foam pucks will help you achieve an even smoother and gentler shave for £6.99.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for a more long-term razor, Estrid’s subscription model allows you to buy a durable weight steel handle which comes with a replaceable blade-head. How it works is every few weeks – or however long you choose – you’ll be sent a new razor head to attach to the handle to ensure a safe and close shave without needing to buy an entire razor each time you need to shave.
Elsewhere, another brand championing sustainable razors is Upcircle, whose plastic-free safety razor costs £24.99. Non-disposable, all you need to do is replace the blades using the brands refill packs.
