A pair of Bristol mums have been named among the most impressive female entrepreneurs in the UK. Faye Dicker, founder of Freelance Mum, and Carly Cannings, who runs The Happy Business School, were included on a list of 100 successful businesswomen compiled by Small Business Britain.
The f:Entrepreneur ‘#IAlso100’ line-up showcases trailblazing female founders leading purpose-driven companies while also carrying out volunteering, mentoring or community support. The campaign – first launched in 2017 – aims to raise greater awareness of the impact of Britain’s women business owners.
Ms Dicker is a voiceover artists who runs her company from her home studio and is also the founder of South Bristol Wrong Road Group. She jointly hosts the Freelance Mum South Bristol hub with Ms Cannings.
“It was such an exciting day, for the South Bristol Hub, when both Carly and I were named in #iAlso100 list,” said Ms Dicker. “It’s an incredible honour to be alongside some amazing names.”
Alongside her own business, Ms Cannings volunteers as an independent custody visitor for Avon and Somerset Police. She also speaks about living with rheumatoid arthritis and is working to raise awareness of the challenges of running a company with a chronic illness or disability.
Ms Cannings said: “I can’t believe we have both ended up on this amazing list – and we didn’t even know the other one had applied! I love running the South Bristol Freelance Mum netwalk with Faye, alongside running my business, and it’s brilliant that we have both been recognised for our work.”
Michelle Ovens, founder of Small Business Britain, added: “It’s wonderful to have Carly and Faye both feature in this year’s #IAlso100 – all of the female entrepreneurs in this year’s line-up are simply phenomenal.
“It is vital that we recognise the impressive contribution of the UK’s female business owners and do all we can to support and encourage them throughout their entrepreneurial journey, from start-up to scale-up. As well as making a huge economic contribution to the UK, female entrepreneurs also create a wider positive impact that ripples across society and local communities too.”
