A 20-year-old Brampton man and a male youth have been charged after an armed retail robbery in Etobicoke earlier this week, while another suspect remains outstanding.
Toronto Police said officers responded on Monday at 5:02 p.m. for a robbery in the Hwy. 27-Rexdale Blvd. area where police alleged that two suspects entered a mall wearing masks to disguise their identities. Police said one suspect produced a knife as they approached a retail kiosk and they prevented the employees from escaping by forcing them to the back of the kiosk.
The suspects demanded cellphones but eventually left empty-handed to an awaiting getaway vehicle driven by a third suspect.
It’s further alleged that a getaway vehicle accelerated at a high speed as it was leaving and a short distance away the vehicle jumped the curb and struck a tree near Woodbine Downs Blvd. Officers surrounded the area and took two suspects into custody.
Jahiem Anthony Gordon, of Brampton, was charged with robbery with an offensive weapon, flight while pursued by a peace officer and possession of property obtained by crime.
A male youth who can’t be named per the Youth Criminal Justice Act was charged with robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent, forcible confinement and possession of property obtained by crime.
There was no description available for the outstanding suspect.
