A personal finance expert has shared the five things that won’t make it into her shopping basket this year in a bid to save money.
Abbi, who regularly posts advice to her Instagram page @abbitalksmoney, was eager to help people get 2025 off to a financially savvy start. Kicking off the year, she revealed a list she had prepared detailing items she vows not to spend money on all year.
She said: “I’ve never done a list of no spend items before but my house is feeling so cluttered so I thought this would be exactly what I need for 2025. It’s the perfect reminder to stop spending on things I don’t need, and as you can see I definitely don’t need any more until I’ve used up what I already have.”
Abbi admitted to putting an end to buying candles after finding many half-used ones around her home. She even suggested cutting back on buying birthday cards unless it’s for a close family member, as she insists a text message will do the job in most cases.
Pens were the third item to make the list, and she insists she won’t be purchasing any more; if they run out, she’ll simply type up any necessary information on her computer. The content creator is also determined not to splurge on toiletries this year, as she has a sufficient stash at home and aims to use at least half of what she already owns.
She also revealed her extensive wardrobe, which includes 11 jumpers that often go unworn. Her goal is to wear the clothes she already owns rather than buying new ones.
Finally, she shared she would be giving up on buying plants. “Just need to keep current ones alive,” Abbi added.
The comments section of her video quickly filled with others sharing their own spending cuts for the year in an effort to save money. One person commented: “Books… it’s going to be really hard. I got back into reading in a big way in 2024. I’d like to read at least half of it [a book] before buying a new book.”
“No books, no body creams,” another chimed in. Another individual shared: “My no spend for 2025 is houseplants, clothes (unless the four pairs of leggings I wear on rotation do infect all rip in the crotch) and books. I have so many houseplants already, I don’t need any more clothes and I have at least 100 books to be read.”
Another person offered their advice, stating: “I’ve used up all my cleaning supplies and reduced down to the basics, popped some Fairy liquid in an old spray bottle with some water. Cupboards are less cluttered, helps to keep the costs down a bit!”
