A groundbreaking new electric vehicle has been unveiled which is powered by solar panels, marking a significant milestone in motoring technology.

Aptera Motors has unveiled its production-ready solar electric vehicle at CES 2025 this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.


The innovative vehicle, showcased at the Las Vegas Convention Center, becomes the world’s first solar-powered EV designed to eliminate the need for regular charging in daily driving.

The debut signals Aptera’s transition from prototyping to production-ready vehicles, demonstrating the company’s readiness to revolutionise sustainable mobility.

The solar electric vehicle (sEV) promises to deliver unprecedented energy efficiency whilst offering drivers freedom from conventional charging methods.

Aptera said the sEV boasts remarkable performance figures, offering up to 400 miles of range from a single charge that takes less than an hour.

The vehicle can generate up to 40 miles of driving range per day using solar power alone.

In sunny climates, the sEV can achieve over 10,000 miles of solar-powered driving annually, substantially reducing dependence on grid charging.

The vehicle features a comprehensive solar array system, with four panels strategically positioned across the hood, dash, roof and hatch.

Its advanced carbon fibre construction ensures a lightweight yet durable design, requiring fewer than one-tenth the parts of conventional vehicles.

Speaking at CES, Chris Anthony, Co-CEO of Aptera Motors, said: “Today marks a pivotal moment not only for Aptera but for the future of sustainable transportation.

“This vehicle embodies years of innovation and relentless pursuit of energy-efficient mobility.

“CES is the perfect stage to share our vision and invite the world to join us in creating a cleaner, solar-powered future.”

The design prioritises self-sufficiency and lightweight construction, addressing both current and future transportation challenges.

Aptera’s innovative approach has already garnered substantial market interest, with nearly 50,000 reservations representing potential revenue of over $1.7billion (£1.38billion).

The company has raised $135million (£109million) through equity crowdfunding to accelerate its path to series production.
