A former police officer has appeared in court charged with misconduct after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a vulnerable woman he met while leading an investigation.

Leicester Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday that Daniel Jackson, 38, faces one charge of misconduct in public office following an investigation by the police watchdog.

The former Leicestershire Police constable, who resigned from the force in September 2022, is alleged to have “pursued personal contact and engaged in a sexual relationship” with a woman who was in a “vulnerable situation”, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said.

The charge relates to allegations between May 17 and June 10 2022.

The IOPC began its investigation in June 2022 following a mandatory referral from the Leicestershire force.

Jackson, of Dewberry Court in Stenson Fields, on the outskirts of Derby, appeared in court wearing a navy suit and only spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

He was granted unconditional bail by district judge Nick Watson to enter a plea at Leicester Crown Court on February 24.
