OTTAWA — Questions over the future of Justin Trudeau’s leadership are expected to be answered Monday morning.

Just after 9 a.m., a media advisory was issued to the Parliamentary Press Gallery alerting reporters that the prime minister will make an announcement and answer questions at 10:45 a.m. from Rideau Cottage.

Both CBC and CTV are reporting Trudeau will resign as Liberal leader. CTV reports he will stay on as prime minister until a new leader is chosen and prorogue Parliament until March 24.

Facing historic low polling numbers over the past year, Canada soundly and vehemently fell out of love with Trudeau — who despite facing numerous devastating scandals and challenges to his leadership, managed to retain power.

Chrystia Freeland’s snap resignation Dec. 16 as Trudeau’s finance minister — just hours before she was to table the government’s long-awaited fall economic statement — was the beginning of the end of the Trudeau government.

Freeland’s resignation touched off waves of Liberal MPs calling for Trudeau to step aside.
