Bristol Rovers have been fined £3,500 after admitting to failing “to ensure that their players did not behave in a way which is improper and provocative” following their 1-1 draw with Wrexham last month, who have been fined £6,000.

The melee occurred after the full-time whistle with James Wilson, Steven Fletcher and James McClean all being shown yellow cards while there had been a previous altercation early in the match between Michael Forbes and Ollie Palmer.

Wrexham had taken the lead after 18 minutes when ex-Bristol City midfielder Matty James brilliantly threaded through Elliot Lee to finish past Josh Griffiths.

However, the Red Dragons failed to capitalise on further chances to extend their advantage and were made to rue their missed opportunities as Promise Omochere nodded home an equaliser off the bench just four minutes from time in the Gas’ first game following the sacking of Matt Taylor.

It was first announced that the two clubs had been charged on December 23 while having until December 30 to respond. The pair have now been fined with the official FA statement reading: “Bristol Rovers and Wrexham have been fined £3,500 and £6,000 respectively following their EFL League One fixure on Saturday, December 21 2024.

“Both clubs admitted that, following the conclusion of the match, they failed to ensure that their players did not behave in a way which is improper and provocative. The sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission.”
