Claudia Winkleman, star of The Traitors, has confessed her “mad” love for a certain superfood known to lower cholesterol.
In a recent episode of Mark Wogan’s Virgin Radio podcast, Claudia professed her fondness for avocados, one of the few fruits she consumes regularly.
She said: “I don’t like fruit in anything savoury, I won’t have it. I’m not interested in fruit. If you said to me ‘Claude, bad news, we’ve lost all the fruit’, I’d be like ‘okay’.
“I think I had a cherry that I quite enjoyed once but that’s it, but no fruit’s not my bag, I like a potato.”
Despite seemingly being unaware of the fruit’s extensive health benefits, experts have long recommended incorporating this superfood into our diets.
Healthline suggests that eating avocados can decrease ‘bad’ cholesterol and increase ‘good’ cholesterol levels, although they stress the need for further studies to provide a more comprehensive understanding.
But avocados don’t just help with cholesterol; they offer numerous other health advantages. This nutrient-rich fruit is packed with healthy fats, protein, and vitamins and minerals often missing from many people’s diets.
It’s even been suggested that this nutrient-dense superfood could potentially reduce the risk of heart disease.
The NHS states that high cholesterol is typically caused by eating fatty foods, lack of exercise, being overweight, smoking and drinking alcohol, but it can also be hereditary.
They added that “too much cholesterol can block your blood vessels. It makes you more likely to have heart problems or a stroke,” and that those with high cholesterol usually don’t experience any symptoms.
Claudia recently introduced fans to the third series of the increasingly popular The Traitors.
However, she confided in her friend, sports presenter Gabby Logan, about her initial hesitation to take on the presenting role: “The Traitors is something I initially turned down because I didn’t like leaving my bed or the kids and they were like ‘would you go to Scotland for three and a half weeks?”
But her perspective shifted after she took a particular step: “And I was like ‘I don’t think so’ and then I watched the Dutch version and I became so obsessed.
“I sent an email to Kate Phillips who offered me the job, who works at the BBC, saying ‘I’ve booked a train, I want to do this more than anything’ because it is a privilege to watch the psychology and gameplay up close.” she added.
Catch The Traitors tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
