Streaming deals are soaring this New Year, with Virgin Media’s Winter sale still in full swing and DisneyPlus continuing to offer its enticing two-month free deal. However, another provider has entered the fray with a January sale that we believe is worth your attention.
Sky has slashed its prices for customers this month, offering up to £120 off TV bills, broadband discounts, and significant savings for mobile users – although the exact savings depend on the plan you choose. The Full Fibre 150Mbps broadband plan has been reduced to a new monthly price of £27, saving you £48 as it drops from the usual £29 rate.
Mobile shoppers can enjoy six months of half-price data on SIM-only deals, but those hoping for a substantial price drop on the luxurious Sky Stream TV plan will have to wait. The provider has announced a massive £120 saving on its bundle comprising Sky TV, Netflix, Sky Stream and Full Fibre 150 Broadband, reducing the price to a new rate of £35.
However, unlike the other two deals – which are available to purchase here – this one will only be available from January 7th, leaving TV enthusiasts potentially eager for the upgrade. This deal reduces the monthly rate by £5 – a total saving of £120, as the Mirror reports.
There are no annoying satellite hook-ups; this box can plug into any TV (provided it has an HDMI port), transforming standard TVs into a smart-like setup thanks to the Sky Stream box.
Sky’s latest offering is revolutionising how we watch TV, as it streams terrestrial channels directly over the internet, meaning there’s no need for a traditional roof aerial. To enjoy this service, all that’s required is a stable Wi-Fi connection at home.
The more affordable bundle option, which saves customers £120, includes Sky’s Full Fibre 150 Mbps plan, although the service is compatible with any provider and plan, provided the speeds are sufficient.
Included in the package is Sky’s Essential TV, boasting channels such as Sky Atlantic, where viewers can indulge in hit series like ‘Euphoria’, ‘House of the Dragon’, and ‘Succession’. Additionally, Netflix is incorporated into the offer, with a Standard with Ads plan included in the price.
Customers have been quick to express their satisfaction, with one Trustpilot reviewer who made the switch from Virgin Media praising the Sky Stream set as a ‘fantastic piece of kit’. They elaborated on their experience, saying: “Been with Virgin Media for TV, broadband and Virgin Media O2 mobiles, left due to customer service. Sky Stream is fantastic.”
The simplicity of setting up the new UHD 4K devices has also been a highlight for users, with comments such as: “Really easy to set up, fantastic picture and sound in UHD 4K. I have 3 x connected to the Internet via ethernet cables and 1 x via WiFi…(soon to be etherneted up). All work great. So easy to set up and use after receiving in the post. Particularly voice control.”
Another user shared insights into the broadband speed needed for an optimal viewing experience: “We are running our sky puck on our Sky super fast broadband connection 61 mbs. By no means the quickest connection these days but more than enough for Sky Stream.”
One customer, initially sceptical, was ultimately won over: “Initially I was not impressed, and about to return it. I then connected it to a brand new LG OLED in my office and was blown away. You need very good internet speed, otherwise you will be disappointed.”
They also praised the superior quality and user interface: “UHD picture quality is very good and the UI very slick. My Sky Q was starting to show its age and I lost satellite signal owing to tree leaves during the summer.”
However, not all feedback has been glowing, with some users experiencing technical issues: “We’ve had sky stream for about 4 months now and despite starting well, it’s now really lost its shine. We have two pucks. One seems fine, the other is constantly buffering, stuttering, and loading sync”, a disgruntled customer reported. Sky customers can enjoy up to £120 in savings this New Year, but Virgin Media is giving them a run for their money with a competing offer.
They’ve knocked £504 off their Biggest Combo TV and broadband plan, reducing it to £69 a month from the usual £97.
