The festive season usually brings additional household cleaning tasks, from dealing with stray pine needles to tackling the aftermath of cooking Christmas dinner. With the busyness that surrounds the days between Christmas and New Year’s, keeping your home spotless can feel like a daunting task, particularly when it comes to cleaning the bathroom.

Bathrooms can be challenging to maintain due to constant moisture and the accumulation of soap scum and mineral deposits. However, experts at Plumbworld have shared their top tip for tackling bathroom grime swiftly and effectively.

For those who find the prospect of scrubbing their bathroom a chore, the good news is that a simple kitchen staple can make short work of persistent stains and build-up, reports the Express. This clever trick not only conserves time but is also more effective against grime and limescale than many off-the-shelf cleaners.

The “miracle” product in question? None other than white vinegar, a staple found in most kitchen cupboards.

White vinegar’s natural acidity works wonders, effortlessly dissolving the limescale, soap scum, and mildew that cause bathroom surfaces to look unsightly. Not only does white vinegar serve as a more gentle alternative to chemical-based products, which are often laden with harsh substances and pungent odours, but it also leaves no residue behind.

Beyond its grim-busting capabilities, white vinegar offers added value by disinfecting – ensuring your bathroom doesn’t just appear clean, but truly is, with a refreshing finish. The product contains acetic acid, which gives it its potent cleaning capabilities. Its acidity breaks down hard water mineral deposits, dissolves soap scum, and combats mould and mildew.

In the UK, where over 60% of homes grapple with hard water issues, limescale build-up on taps, shower screens, and toilets is a frequent problem. White vinegar offers a straightforward, natural solution to address this directly.

To clean your shower screens and tiles with white vinegar, the experts suggest mixing equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle. You should then generously spray the solution on the shower screen, tiles, and other surfaces affected by grime or limescale and let it sit for five minutes to break down the build-up.

Finally, wipe away the grime with a soft cloth or sponge, rinse with water and dry with a microfibre cloth for a streak-free finish. For stubborn spots, scrub lightly with a non-abrasive pad.

For taps and fixtures, soak a clean cloth in undiluted white vinegar and wrap it around taps or faucets where limescale has accumulated. Then, leave it for five to 10 minutes before unwrapping the cloth and scrubbing any remaining residue with an old toothbrush and wiping clean with a damp cloth.

To clean toilets with white vinegar, pour one to two cups of it into the toilet bowl and leave to sit for at least five minutes, or longer for tough stains. Scrub with a toilet brush, ensuring the vinegar covers all areas and then flush to reveal a clean, stain-free toilet bowl.
