Charles Spencer, brother of the late Princess Diana, shared a poignant moment at his sister’s grave on Christmas Eve.

The 60-year-old Earl Spencer posted a photo on social media showing a grand black bench beneath Diana’s memorial at Althorp House, where the siblings grew up together.

“My favourite bench – good place to sit on Christmas Eve during a quiet moment,” he wrote in the caption accompanying the image.

He also shared a contemplative photo of Oval Lake in his Instagram story, showing shadows of bare trees over the water.

Princess Diana’s final resting place lies on an island in the middle of Oval Lake at Althorp House, accessible only by boat to close family and friends.

While initially planned for burial in the Spencer family vault in Great Brington, Charles Spencer chose to change her final resting spot to ensure her privacy.

In his book, Althorp: The Story of an English House, he explained the remote location was “entirely intentional”, with the lake serving as “a buffer against the interventions of the insane and ghoulish, the thick mud presenting a further line of defence.”

Charles Spencer previously revealed he visits his sister’s grave “pretty much every day”, keeping her memory alive even 27 years after her passing.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain earlier this year, the author shared his ongoing connection to Diana’s memorial.

He acknowledged that everyone has their own trauma to process.

He said: “Like everyone else, you sort of get used to it without it ever going away.”

The Northamptonshire estate, spanning over 13,000 acres, welcomes tourists during summer months but remains closed through winter.

On Christmas Day, Charles Spencer shared a nighttime image of Althorp House illuminated by streams of yellow light, suggesting he spent the holiday at the ancestral estate.

Earlier in the festive season, the Earl Spencer had showcased Althorp’s Christmas transformation on Instagram.

The post featured a towering Christmas tree adorned with snow-white lights and red baubles.

“Happy Christmas to you, from @althorphouse,” he wrote in the festive social media update.
