Strictly Come Dancing star Zara McDermott has spoken out after a distressing incident that took place while she was out shopping on Christmas Eve. Usually, this time of year sees a rush for last-minute purchases as shoppers stock up for the festive period, but not everyone appeared to carry the spirit of goodwill this season.

Zara, known from her appearances in popular shows such as Love Island, Made in Chelsea, and Love in the Flesh, described the encounter as “completely vile”. Yesterday, at about 2pm, the 28 year old turned to Instagram to recount the distressing ordeal to her 2 million followers.

She was outside a Lidl store with her brother’s girlfriend, Alice, when they were targeted. Zara shared the troubling event in her Instagram stories, expressing her shock: “Guys, me and Alice are actually really shocked at what just happened. We were just getting some last minute christmas bits just walking down the street, normal normal stuff and this guy out of nowhere runs up to us , spits on us, thankfully it just missed because of the wind and then walked off in the other direction. I can’t believe it.”

Zara McDermott’s partner Sam Thompson hasn’t yet commented on the shocking incident where she was harassed by a man on London’s streets. Yet, he’s caused quite a stir recently with his loving birthday message for Zara, leading fans to believe an engagement might be in the offing.

In his post, Sam referred to Zara as “my person” and playfully warned, “I’m afraid you’re stuck with me forever.”, reports the Mirror.

The full affectionate dedication from Thompson said: “My best friend, and soul mate….some would say my person. I’m afraid you’re stuck with me forever happy birthday. I love you so much, and wow have I missed you over the past month! Here’s to another amazing year with you.”

Eager fans didn’t miss a beat, adding their speculations in the comments section. Among the flood of birthday wishes, one user added a ring emoji and question marks, while another excitedly suggested, “That’s the perfect dress for you to get engaged.”

A third chimed in with, “You should get her a ring………… just saying! ! “, and yet another teased Sam, saying, “OK SAMWISE BUT WHERE’S THE RING.”
