King Charles will deliver his annual King’s Speech on Christmas Day, here’s everything you need to know.
It was recently announced that this year the message will be delivered from a former hospital chapel. This makes it the first time in over a decade that the Christmas speech has been recorded from a location that isn’t a royal palace or estate.
The chapel is the Fitzrovia Chapel in central London, which once served as the chapel of the Middlesex Hospital.
The change in location occurs during a year in which the King has been undergoing cancer treatment, and it is understood he wanted a location with a connection to those working in healthcare. His regular sessions of treatment are continuing into the new year.
The speech was recorded on December 11, and follows a tradition dating back to 1932, when George V made the first Christmas broadcast. The last time the Christmas Day speech was filmed outside of a royal residence was when Queen Elizabeth II recorded the 2006 speech at Southwark Cathedral.
What time is the King’s Christmas speech?
King Charles will address the nation on Christmas Day at 3pm. The speech will last roughly ten minutes.
What channel is it on?
You can watch the speech on BBC, ITV and Sky News.
What do we know about the speech so far?
It’s expected, due to the location, that the message delivered by the King this year will focus on the efforts of healthcare workers and the importance of supporting communities in Britain after the Southport stabbings.
Not only has the King been receiving cancer treatment this year, but the Princess of Wales also, which he is likely to touch on. Overall, the speech will likely be used to discuss major events in Britain in the last year.
The King’s Speech will premiere on BBC One, ITV, and Sky News at 3pm on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25)
