I have a question for you: Where do you keep your condiments?
Research from English mustard & condiments brand, Colman’s, has found where we keep our sauces – ready to pair with everything from a nut roast to a roast beef. The fridge takes the top spot, with more than one-quarter (29%) of the nation chilling their sauces, followed by the cupboard (20%).
Other spots for condiment storage include the kitchen counter (2%) – and even the bedroom (1%). Mustard topped the list of condiments being stored incorrectly with nearly half of the nation (48.5%) admitting they stored it everywhere else bar the fridge.
Over a quarter (27.7%) admitted to spending up to £30 on condiments for Christmas. Rachel Chambers, Marketing Manager at Colman’s, said: “The correct place to store condiments is a source of debate for families, friends and colleagues throughout the UK.
“It’s a sticky subject for many and Colman’s is excited put the argument to rest once and for all. As over half of the nation (53%) store their condiments incorrectly, it’s important that once opened, they remain refrigerated.
“This will ensure freshness and help your condiments maintain their flavour for the freshest taste on 25 December and beyond.”
The top five sauces set to make an appearance at Christmas are:
- Cranberry Sauce (36.3%)
- Mint Sauce (21.7%)
- Apple Sauce (21.25%)
- Horseradish (12.1%)
- Mustard (9.95%)
While cranberry is a favourite across the UK, there was one exception. Liverpool named Apple Sauce (35.16%) as its sticky sauce of choice.
