Prince Harry has been urged to “send an olive branch to King Charles” by a royal commentator, as the Duke of Sussex stays in California amid “concerns” for Archie and Lilibet’s safety if they were to travel to the UK.

The father-of-two has been locked in a royal rift with the monarch and his older brother, Prince William, since he stepped back from royal duties in 2020 alongside Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to Montecito, California, where they are currently raising their two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

The family of four was in the spotlight last week after their Christmas card was released, featuring a photograph showing the two youngsters running towards their parents.

Meghan, 43, and Harry, 40, are set to spend the festive season at home in the US, given their frosty relationship with the Royal Family.

Royal commentator Hugo Vickers believes that the duke should send an olive branch to the King, 76.

He told The Sun: “He’s [Harry] the one who needs to pull himself together and extend the olive branch because he is the one making it difficult between them.

“The most successful members of the Royal Family are the ones who support the King in what he’s doing, and they don’t compete with him.”

Prince Harry previously opened up about loving raising his children in the US.

In a conversation with columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the New York Times DealBook Online Summit in New York City, Harry was asked whether he wanted to stay in the US, especially amid the concerns for his family’s safety in the UK.

Prince Harry said: “I do. I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here. It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live.”

The Duke of Sussex added: “I feel as though it’s the life that my mum wanted for me.

“To be able to do the things I’m able to do with my kids that I undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK — it’s huge. That is a fantastic opportunity and I’m hugely grateful for that.”

Earlier this year, Prince Harry told ITV he will “not bring Meghan Markle back to the UK” in a damning statement.

He said: “All it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff, to act on what they have read.

“And whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is. These are things that are a genuine concern for me.
