A cheeky six year old girl couldn’t resist going cross-eyed during a live Christmas carol performance on This Morning – after her dad promised her £5 for the stunt. Young Everly Base was thrilled to be chosen to appear on the ITV daytime programme with some of her schoolmates.

Her father, 37 year old carpenter Aaron, playfully challenged her to pull the face, offering a £5 reward for doing so. However, mum-of-three Carla, 38, had completely forgotten about the dare until she began receiving calls informing her that her daughter had followed through while singing Starry Night.

The family from Yate, South Gloucestershire, found the incident absolutely hilarious and were “in pieces” as they watched it unfold. Carla, who works as a social worker, recounted: “My husband Aaron dared her to go cross-eyed. I didn’t expect her to actually do it.”

“I said to her before, ‘if they speak to you – don’t say you want a fart gun for Christmas’. All of the other kids were singing lovely. Then there is her being silly.”

Everly’s school had been selected to feature on This Morning to perform carols, and she was one of the lucky 12 drawn from a hat to participate. Carla expressed how wonderful it was that Everly got the opportunity.

On the eve of the show, set for December 16, Aaron whimsically suggested Everly should go cross-eyed during her song, tempting her with the promise of £5. While Carla was initially watching the show live, she had to drive home when her two year old son Jack became fussy.

It was during her drive back that she started receiving calls alerting her to Everly’s on-air antics, revealing: “I got calls to say she had gone cross-eyed on the telly. People said ‘I think the tiredness has hit’.”

Once Carla got home and saw the video, she phoned Aaron without delay. Her reaction was: “He was absolutely in pieces.”

It had slipped Carla’s mind that Aaron had requested the little performance. One can’t help but wonder, “You think ‘is this kid alright? ‘”.

It wasn’t just a one-off – “She does it a few times.”

Encouraged by family and friends, Aaron decided to give Everly £10, and the youngster has been in fits of giggles rewatching the clip.

Carla expressed, “She is my wild child.”

Destined for the spotlight, Carla added: “She’s born to be a performer.”

Describing Everly’s nature, Carla continued: “She’s crazy.”

Concluding with a touch of amusement and pride, Carla remarked: “She’s forever doing stupid things.”
