Passengers travelling from Bristol Airport this festive season have been issued a traffic warning ahead of the busy Christmas period. Drivers travelling from Bristol to Bristol Airport have been advised to add an extra 25 minutes to their expected journey time, especially when travelling at peak times.
Vehicle experts Lotus Car Rental analysed traffic data on Google Maps for the busiest days across the festive period on travel routes to the UK’s busiest airports. They also discovered the busiest times for the airport’s departures and arrival times.
Up and down the country the roads are typically more congested around rush hour with high volumes of traffic predicted between 5pm and 7pm. When travelling to Bristol Airport, the data has predicted adding an additional 25 minutes to your journey particularly when travelling during the peak time.
If you’re aiming for an early morning flight, traffic times vary, however between 1am and 4am, and 11pm – midnight, is predicted to be the quietest time on the roads. Meanwhile, for drivers travelling to the airport to collect loved ones, many flights arrive in that peak traffic window. Allow yourself additional journey time to avoid leaving family members stranded at the airport.
According to data from the RAC, Friday, December 20 will see around three million journeys on UK roads, while Christmas Eve will be the busiest day with 3.8 million drivers expected to make journeys. The bad news is that Christmas Eve coincides with the usual commuter traffic, meaning queues and delays are likely on major routes.
The study analysed Google Maps traffic data on routes travelling from the nearest major city to the UK’s commercial airports. The 10 busiest airports were collated from Enjoy Travel and busiest arrival and departure times were sourced from general aviation trends.
