2015 marked the third generation of this popular midsize Ford SUV. Canadian sales were healthy averaging around 17K units per year. The Ford Edge competed in a very crowded market but its combination of economy and space gave it a decided edge (pardon the pun). Too bad 2024 was the last year for the Edge.

Used Ford Edge 2015-2024 engine options and trims
In 2015 the Ford Edge offered seven trim levels ranging from the entry level SE in front-wheel drive all the way up to the Sport all-wheel drive. In 2024 that number was dropped to five; SE, SEL, ST Line, Titanium, and ST. Front-wheel drive was not offered this year as all Ford Edge models were all-wheel drive. Engine choices ranged from a turbo-charged 2.0 L four cylinder to either a 2.7 L or 3.5 L V6 and transmission choices were either a 6-speed or 8-speed automatic. No manual gearboxes were offered. The final year for this review, 2024, brought only one power-train option; the 2.0 L four-cylinder rated at 250 hp mated to an 8-speed automatic.
Used Ford Edge 2015-2024 price range
As we’ve already stated above, the Edge sold in good numbers. Asking prices for used examples range from CDN $17,000 to $36,000.
Ford Edge 2015-2024 interior and practicality
There’s plenty of room front and back in an Edge (family sized) and the absence of a three-row seating model means a totally flat cargo area floor. Outward visibility is good but thick pillars keep it from being excellent and hence the blind spots that take some getting used to. By the 2021 model year, the Edge benefited from Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment system with functional voice recognition and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Standard safety equipment included forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist. Power from the 2.7 L V6, rated at 335 hp gave the Edge more than enough punch to satisfy commuters and driving enthusiasts alike. Features like the hands-free liftgate, activated by a foot-swipe under the rear bumper were welcomed by users as was the key-pad entry on the door.
Its low-ish roof-line made it an easy fit in today’s smaller home garages. NRCan fuel economy ratings ranged from 9.8L/100km to 12.4 L/100km combined and while hi-octane fuel was recommended on turbo-charged models for best performance, though it wasn’t mandatory.
Problems in Used 2015-2024 Ford Edge
Most drivers had complaints about the driver’s left foot rest which was labelled as intrusive and uncomfortable. While the first and second generation Ford Edge had their share of problems, Ford seems to have worked out most of the kinks for this third generation SUV. An airbag recall for the 2015 model year, some leaking brake boosters, and roof glass panel breakage were some of the few noted problems across the production line. Anyone moving from a V6 equipped Edge to the four cylinder model noted lower acceleration power at highway speeds. On the bright side, regular maintenance items such as oil changes, suspension work and brakes can be done for competitive and expected pricing.
Ford Edge reliability
Third gen Edge is known to easily exceed the 300,000 km mark with appropriate maintenance and protection from corrosion such as quality sprays. Edges of all generations were not known for premature corrosion failures but when looking at any vehicle that’s been run year round in Canada for over 5 years a good under-carriage inspection is highly recommended. The large number of Edges sold annually make for a good selection of common repair parts from various makers; helping keep repair prices affordable.
Which used Ford Edge should you buy?
Stick with 2021 models or later due to their slightly superior repair-cost ratings, updated infotainment system, and full array of driving assistance and collision mitigation features. Avoid sunroof equipped models; even if they don’t break, with age comes water sealing and drainage issues as it can with any make.
