A pedestrian who died after being struck by a bus in Newry has been named locally as Dominic McGrath.
The 33-year-old, who was from Iveagh Crescent area of the city, passed away at the scene near the Mall on Tuesday afternoon.
The collision happened at around 4.30pm near the bus station.
The Mall area was cordoned off until late on Tuesday night as first responders tried in vain to save Mr McGrath.
A death notice described the deceased as the beloved son of Tina and the late Dominic RIP and states that he was a dearest brother of the late Clare RIP, a cherished nephew, cousin and friend.
Funeral arrangements will be confirmed soon.
“Deeply regretted and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family circle and friends,” the notice adds.
“Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on his gentle soul.”
Many in the community have expressed condolences to the grieving family and expressed sympathy with the bus driver.

Local councillor Killian Feehan said “it’s a horrendous set of circumstances to land on anyone’s door but especially so close to Christmas.
“My heart is just broken for Dominic’s mother and my heart goes out to her,” he added.
“It’s just so tragic.
“Everyone in Newry is extending condolences and goodwill to her.
“I would imagine the bus driver is in bits as well and we are mindful of them too.”
PSNI Inspector Cherith Adair has appealed for anyone with information or footage of the incident to contact police.
“It was reported that a bus was involved in the incident. The male, who was a pedestrian, sadly died at the scene as a result of his injuries,” she said.
“Inquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information or dashcam footage available to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1144 17/12/24.”
Meanwhile Translink confirmed an Ulsterbus was involved in the serious road traffic incident.
“Emergency services and the PSNI attended the scene,” a spokesperson added.
“Translink is assisting PSNI with their investigation into the incident.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy.”
