Hollywood actor Tom Cruise has received an award at a south London studio for “fostering recognition and public support” of the naval forces in his films. Tom Cruise turned up early on Tuesday morning at the Longcross Film Studios in Chertsey, Surrey where the United-States Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro presented him with the Distinguished Public Service Award. It is the highest award a private citizen can receive from the United States Secretary of Defence. The award is presented by the navy to civilians who have carried out acts of valour or heroism, or who have demonstrated extraordinary service on behalf of the Navy over a lengthy interval. It is the most prestigious US Naval award given to civilians.
