Ahead of the Christmas holidays, changes to bin collection arrangements have been announced for all eleven of Northern Ireland’s council areas.

Here’s how the collection changes will impact your area.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council

Bins due to be collected in Antrim and Newtownabbey on Christmas Day will be collected on December 27 while those due on Boxing Day will be lifted December 28.

Bins scheduled for collection on January 1 and 2, in the Antrim district only, will be lifted on January 2 and 3 respectively.

In Newtownabbey, brown or black bins due to be collected December 27 will be collected on December 30. Wheelie boxes will be collected as normal on December 27.

Brown or black bins due to be collected on December 31 will be collected on January 2 2025.

Bins due to be collected on January 1 will instead be collected on January 4.

Those scheduled for a January 2 collection will be lifted January 4 while those due on January 3 are to be picked up January 6.

Any residents with bins due between January 6 and January 10 are advised their bins will be lifted the following day of the date due.

Wheelie boxes due to be collected on January 2, January 3, January 6, January 7, January 8, January 9 and January 10 will be collected as normal

Ards and North Down Borough Council

Household bin collections in the borough will carry on as normal up until December 25 and 26 were bins will be collected on both days a day later respectively.

Normal collections will resume on December 30 and 31 with collection dates being delayed a day later for January 1 and January 2.

Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) at Balloo, Ballygowan, Comber, Donaghadee, Holywood, Kircubbin, Millisle, Newtownards and Portaferry will be closed on Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25, Thursday 26 December and Wednesday 1 January.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council

Bins due for collection on December 25 will be collected on December 21 instead and those due to be collected December 26 are scheduled for collection December 28.

Meanwhile bins arranged to be picked up January 1 will be collected January 4.

Recycling centres across the borough will remain closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Belfast City Council Borough

For Belfast, collection arrangements for general waste, recycling and compost bins as well as glass box collections and wheelie boxes scheduled for Christmas Day are rescheduled for December 21.

Those due on December 26 will be arranged for December 28 instead while bins due for collection on January 1 are to be rescheduled for January 4.

Arrangements for kerbside recycling boxes collected by Bryson Recycling will be scheduled for December 28 instead of Christmas Day while those due for Boxing Day will be picked up on December 29. Those due on New Year’s Day will be collected January 4.

The council advised if bins are not collected as planned, that residents should continue to leave them out for weekend pick-up.

Recycling centres and civic amenity sites in Belfast will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day but open on all other dates as normal.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council

No bin collections will be carried out on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Bins scheduled to be collected on Christmas Day will be collected on December 20 in the Limavady area and on December 21 in the Ballymoney, Coleraine and Moyle areas.

Bins due to be collected on Boxing Day are scheduled for December 21 in the Limavady area and December 28 in Ballymoney, Coleraine and Moyle areas.

Bins scheduled to be collected on New Year’s Day will be collected on January 3 in the Limavady area and on December 28 in the Ballymoney, Coleraine and Moyle areas.

Household Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Open as normal at all other times.

Derry City and Strabane District Council

Blue and brown bins due for collection on Christmas Day will be picked up on December 21 while those due for New Years Day will be lifted on December 28.

Blue and brown bin collections due to take place on Boxing Day will be lifted on December 22.

All recycling centres in the district will close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council

Bin collections due on Christmas Day will be picked up on December 21 and those falling on Boxing Day will instead be lifted on December 28.

Waste collection will continue to operate as normal outside of these dates including New Year’s Day.

Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council

Bin collections due on Christmas Day will be picked up December 21 while boxes will be lifted December 28.

For Boxing Day, bin collections will be rescheduled for December 28 and boxes are to be picked up December 29.

An alternative collection date for bins and boxes on New Years Day are both scheduled for January 4.

Recycling centres in the district will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council

Collections scheduled for December 25 in Ballymena and Carrickfergus will be lifted on December 21 while the pickup date in Larne will be December 23.

Bin collections due on Boxing Day will be collected as normal in Ballymena and while Larne and Carrickfergus residents will see their bins lifted on December 28.

For New Years Day, bins in Ballymena will be collected on December 28 and collections for Larne and Carrickfergus will be January 4.

Bryson Recycling kerbside boxes scheduled for a December 25 pickup will be collected on December 28 in Ballymena and Carrickfergus while those on Boxing Day are to be lifted December 29.

Those due on New Year’s Day in Ballymena and Carrickfergus will be collected on January 4.

Recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Mid Ulster District Council

Residents of the Mid Ulster district will see their bins scheduled for Christmas Day collected on December 21.

Those due for Boxing Day will instead be lifted on December 28 and bins arranged for collection on New Years Day will be lifted on January 4.

Recycling centres will close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council

Holiday bin arrangements for Newry, Mourne and Ballyward districts due on Christmas Day will see December 21 as the alternative collection date while those due on Boxing Day are scheduled for December 28 and those on New Year’s Day moved to January 4.

In the Down distinct area, Christmas Day collections will come December 21, Boxing Day collections to come on December 23 and New Year Day collections lifted December 30 instead.
