A man will appear in court next month after three PSNI officers were allegedly assaulted in south Belfast.

The man was arrested in the Dublin Road area in the early hours of Friday after he was initially pursued for suspicious driving.

He has now been charged with driving offences as well as three counts of assault on police and resisting police.

During the incident, the driver attempted to evade the officers while holding on to the hand of an officer and did the same with the other two officers on duty.

The 35-year-old man was arrested.

On Saturday morning, the PSNI confirmed the man had been charged.

They said: “Police investigating an assault on three officers during the early hours of Friday morning, December 13, in the Dublin Road area of south Belfast have charged a man to court.

“The 35-year-old has been charged with a number of driving offences as well as three counts of assault on police and resisting police.

“He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Friday, January 10.

“As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
