“Epic” might be an understatement in this case.

Ryan Lomberg is going to remember this week for the rest of his life.

His birthday was Monday, but that’s actually pretty inconsequential compared to everything else he had going on.

In any normal week, getting his Stanley Cup ring from his former team, the Florida Panthers, at a dinner on Friday night would be the highlight.

But it’s overshadowed by the fact that in the wee hours of Thursday morning, Lomberg’s wife Marissa gave birth to their third child. Nothing beats that.

“Between my birthday, the baby and now the ring, it’s been a pretty epic week,” Lomberg said with a smile.

Lomberg has brought a much-appreciated dose of energy to the Flames locker room since signing in free agency in July and has become an important part of the fabric of the team.

That’s something the Panthers valued a ton as they made their Stanley Cup run last spring, beating the Edmonton Oilers in the final.

That experience bonds a team forever and, as Lomberg explained, he’s more excited for the opportunity to reconnect with his Panthers teammates than he is about actually receiving the ring.

“I keep telling people I’m more excited to see the boys and catch up with the boys than I am to get the ring,” Lomberg explained. “The ring’s something incredibly special, but it’s materialistic stuff. The bond I have with those guys, it’s what I’m looking forward to the most, just kind of rekindling and picking up right where we left off.”
