The Maple Leafs have recalled goaltender Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Marlies on an emergency basis.
The move comes in the wake of the lower-body injury suffered by Anthony Stolarz during the first period of the Leafs’ 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday at Scotiabank Arena.
Leafs coach Craig Berube is expected to provide an update on the status of Stolarz following practice on Friday at the Ford Performance Centre.
Joseph Woll entered the Leafs net to start the second period against Anaheim and stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced.
In six games with the Marlies, Hildeby has an .897 save percentage and a 2.73 goals-against average while posting a record of 2-2-2.
In two games earlier this season with the Leafs, Hildeby was 1-1-0 with an .869 save percentage and a 4.03 goals-against average.
With the Leafs playing a back-to-back set this weekend — on the road against Detroit on Saturday and at home against Buffalo on Sunday — Hildeby should be in line to get one start.
More to come …
