A man in his 50s has been charged with a number of offences after being arrested in connection with a security alert in Co Londonderry.

Homes in the Ranaghan Road area close to Maghera were evacuated and nearby roads closed following the discovery of a suspicious device in the area on Tuesday.

The man has been charged with possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances, possessing explosives with intent to endanger life or cause serious injury to property, cultivating cannabis, possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply, and possession of a Class B controlled drug.

He is expected to appear before Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday December 14 2024.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
