An arrest has been made in relation to the death of a man after an assault in Co Dublin.

The incident took place in Tobersool, near Balbriggan, on Thursday evening.

Gardai and emergency services attended a residence in Tobersool shortly after 11.20pm on Thursday where a man aged in his 70s was found unresponsive.

He was declared dead at the scene.

A man aged in his 20s was arrested in connection with the investigation, and is being detained at a Dublin Garda station pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The office of the State Pathologist has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The scene is being preserved pending an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been established at Balbriggan Garda Station.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward, and have called for anyone with video recordings, including motorists with dash cams, to provide footage to officers.
