Reckon you can spot a fibber? Test your ability to read faces and see if you can discern between honesty and deceit.

A recent survey indicates the most common lies are excuses for tardiness, misrepresenting workload levels, and feigning illness to skip work. With one in five regularly telling a fib to their boss.

Most workers reckon they can pull the wool over people’s eyes, attributing their success to either being convincing or having a strong rapport with their manager. Yet, 16 per cent have been caught up which has resulted in an unlucky 22 per cent losing their jobs.

A spokesperson for 888poker, who created the quiz, commented: “You can interpret people as much by the way they speak, as the words they use. This fun quiz will discover how observant you are of others.”

The findings also show that those who deceive their employers tend to do so weekly, lying about their location or reasons for missing deadlines.

“The workplace in particular is an interesting place to explore telling white lies, because the hierarchy means you could get in trouble, but also colleagues perhaps don’t know you as well as friends and family do,” the spokesperson added.

According to the survey, 2 in 10 workers believe their colleagues lie to their boss more frequently than they do, and 45 per cent agree that all employees tell white lies. Interestingly, most also suspect their employer of telling lies.

The primary reasons for resorting to dishonesty include avoiding trouble, making life at work easier, and assisting a colleague.

Almost a fifth of those surveyed have managed to escape the consequences of a major blunder at work by lying, but a third believe their facial expression and body language would be a giveaway.

So, can you discern if your co-worker or boss is lying to you? Take this quiz to find out.
