The Hay Festival coming to Bristol for the first time with a special night bringing the “spirit” of the world-famous cultural event to the city. Organisers say After Hours at Bristol Beacon will be a night of “big ideas, performances, provocations and new thinking”.

The first Hay Festival was held in 1987 in Hay-on-Wye, Wales. Along with the world-famous literature and arts event in its hometown, it now runs events and projects all over the world, including in the USA, South America and Spain – all with the aim of bringing together diverse voices to listen, talk, debate and create.

It also holds After Hours nights in cities around the UK for audiences who may not be able to attend the festival. For Bristol, organisers are promising a night of “big ideas, performances, provocations and new thinking” with a line-up of emerging and established artists.

Hay Festival Global CEO Julie Finch said: “We believe culture belongs to everyone. As a charity, we work to take the spirit of Hay Festival to communities across the UK and further afield with our Hay Festival After Hours events.

“These one-off nights in cities around the UK offer audiences who might not have the chance to come to us in Wales the opportunity to enjoy that unique blend of Hay Festival inspiration. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Bristol Beacon to make our debut in the city and hope to see many of you there next March.”

Hay Festival After Hours will take place at Bristol Beacon on Thursday, March 27 at 7.30pm. The full event line-up will be revealed in the new year.
