A man and a woman face firearms and drugs charges after cops in Markham seized two handguns in separate traffic stops last weekend.

York Regional Police say the first gun was discovered when officers responded to reports of “a suspicious vehicle” in the area of Kelly Cr. and Tidewater St. – near 16th Avenue and McCowan Rd. – around 2 a.m. on Saturday.

“A concerned citizen contacted police to report a pickup truck that had been idling in the area,” Const. James Dickson said in a statement released Wednesday. “Officers attended, located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.”

He said officers spoke to the suspect and allegedly spotted cannabis that was readily available to the driver.

“As a result, a search was conducted and a firearm and a quantity of a substance believed to be methamphetamine was located in the vehicle,” Dickson alleged.

The 22-year-old Toronto man was subsequently arrested.

Cops seized a second gun during another traffic stop barely 24 hours later.

“Officers conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the suspect, the officers observed cannabis readily available to the driver,” Dickson alleged. “As a result, a search of the vehicle was conducted and a firearm was located.”
