BBC Breakfast viewers were in for a surprise this morning as weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was notably absent from her usual position. During the Tuesday (December 10) broadcast, presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent welcomed the audience and sharing the day’s headline news.
However, the programme took an unexpected turn when Carol Kirkwood departed from her regular weather forecasting spot at the Salford studio. Instead, she chose to deliver her weather segment from the stunning location of the Roman Baths in Bath, reports the Mirror.
Sally introduced the change by saying to the viewers: “Now it’s time for the weather with Carol and she has gone somewhere very special this morning. Carol explains where you are this morning. It looks very dramatic.”
The scene then shifted to Carol, who appeared against the breathtaking backdrop of the Baths, conversing with Jon, Sally, and the viewers. She began by saying: “Aww Sal it is fabulous. Good Morning everybody I am in the Roman Baths right next to the Great Bath.”
Clearly enchanted by the historic setting, Carol continued: “Look at it in its splendour and can you imagine what this would have looked like in its heyday in Roman times? It would have been vibrant all around and there would have been people gossiping, having meetings and then going into the baths which were considered healing waters.”
She then disclosed: “The reason why I am here is because it’s actually being cleaned. It started yesterday and it will be completed today. The water level is dipping from where it normally is so soon we will see people in their wellies with soft brushes cleaning away and looking after the historic element of the baths.”
Carol then went on to deliver the weather update but not before making a personal revelation that took Sally by surprise: “I probably shouldn’t say this but Bath is my favourite city in England.”
Back in the studio, a fascinated Sally responded, “Did you hear what Carol just said? Bath is her favourite city.” Her co-host Jon couldn’t resist a playful jab: “That is going to cause some dramatic issues.” Sally pondered the possible fallout, musing aloud, “Well I don’t know what is going to happen.”
