The critical incident at Southmead Hospital has been stood down. Patients were urged to stay away as the hospital was under extreme pressure across all areas on Tuesday (December 3).
In an update this afternoon (Thursday, December 5), North Bristol NHS Trust confirmed that the critical incident has been stood down. The hospital is expected to remain busy this weekend and patients have been reminded to consider other services.
North Bristol NHS Trust Press Office said: “The Trust has stepped down the Critical Incident that we declared at Southmead Hospital on Tuesday 3 December.
“The actions taken by our teams and the response of the public over the past two days means that the hospital is now in an improved position. We still expect this weekend to be very busy and are planning accordingly and ask that you please consider using alternative services, such as your local pharmacy or NHS 111 where appropriate.
“If your loved one is in hospital and ready to go home, please help them by supporting their discharge home as soon as possible. We are incredibly grateful to our staff for their efforts and for the understanding of patients during this particularly busy time.”
