Thousands of suspected Pregablin tablets have been recovered by police and the driver arrested for a number of offences following a vehicle stop in east Belfast.
Police also said the vehicle stopped in east Belfast on Monday evening was a Motability Scheme car and said alongside his arrest, the vehicle has been seized “with the possibility of this being removed from the user for abuse of the scheme”.
The PSNI’s Road Policing Interceptors stopped the Hyundai vehicle before finding the tablets.
A police spokesperson said: “The driver was wanted for arrest following a domestic incident in the Lisburn policing area last week, the driver was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (AOABH) x 3.
“Coercive control, theft x 2, threats to kill and criminal damage.
“Following arrest a search of the vehicle was carried out and a large bag containing approximately 5,850 Pregablin tablets was located.
“The driver was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class C controlled drug and possession of a Class C controlled drug with intent to supply.
“A passenger in the vehicle was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class C controlled drug and possession of a Class C controlled drug with intent to supply.”
The PSNI confirmed both those arrested by officers are “currently assisting Police with their enquiries”.
