Bristol is not shy of festive light trails and illuminations – you can check out our lists here and here to read about more of them. And, just a 30 minute drive from the city centre, one country estate is playing host to a ‘bigger and better’ illuminations event this year.

Old Down Country Park and Estate, which is located in Tockington, Bristol, has a multitude of sparkling installations and lights as part of its immersive trail this festive season. There’s also a seasonal themed menu, including Yorkshire pudding wraps and loaded roast potatoes – plus a festive village full of marshmallows to toast, hot chocolates and mulled wine to sip on, and more.

As a dog friendly venue, dogs are welcome to join you as you embark on the magical trail. You can take your time, go at your own pace, and go around the trail as many times as you like.

The marshmallow toasting is completely free, there’s a dedicated crumble and hot chocolate station you’ll need to pay for, and you can say hello to the park’s animals at the Crafty Cabin, where you can also partake in some Christmas crafts.

The country estate is hosting quieter sessions on Mondays, featuring reduced capacity, noise and music, for anyone who would prefer a calmer experience.

Tickets include access to the Illumination Trail, and it’s worth noting that the adventure park equipment will be closed during trail times. Sessions (the entrance times) are as follows:

  • 4.30-5.15pm
  • 5-5.45pm
  • 5.30-6.15pm
  • 6-6.45pm

The trail event runs up until December 24. Tickets cost £19.50 for adults, £13 for children and concessions, £59 for a family, and under 2s and carers go free.
