A tranquil area in Spain is enticing Brits with an offer of nearly £2,500 to relocate there, plus additional incentives for every new child in the family. The Asturian region of Ponga is offering British citizens £2,477 to settle in its picturesque locale and will add another £2,477 for each baby born.
Moreover, Euronews has reported that locals can benefit from a 60 percent reduction in their IBI (local property tax) and a substantial 95 percent discount on the Tax on the Increase in the Value of Urban Land for inherited properties. Ponga also offers social housing at a mere £41.64 per month for those looking to initiate a business or project within the village.
To qualify for this attractive package, Brits must commit to residing in Ponga for a minimum of five years. However, this requirement is hardly a drawback given Ponga’s breath taking scenery, which includes incredible hiking trails, proximity to some of the world’s most stunning beaches, and prime birdwatching locations ,reports the Express.
Wayne Mills, Head of Operations at Seven Seas Worldwide, commented: “Ponga is a little off the beaten track for tourists, but its mountainous landscape is absolutely jaw-dropping.”
He added: “It’s the perfect place to live in tune with nature – and the region produces amazing wines!
“It’s a win-win: you get a fresh start and a helping hand, while local economies enjoy a much-needed boost.”
The town is nestled within a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve in the encompassing Cantabrian Mountains. The region boasts several breathtaking hikes amid wildflowers and gently flowing rivers, as well as towering mountains.
One such walk is the 9.2 kilometre circular Ruta del Valle de Ponga route which commences outside San Juan de Beleño, just a stone’s throw from the town hall, and meanders through the woodland. Labelled as moderately challenging, the track is a hit during the summer months but becomes more tranquil in the shoulder season.
The trail is accessible all year round and offers stunning views regardless of the season. Dogs are permitted, but must be kept on a leash.
In addition to the picturesque landscape, Ponga also enjoys a staggering 2000 hours of sunlight annually, providing ample opportunity for sunbathing.
