Northern Ireland adults are the most likely to access pornographic content across the UK, new research by Ofcom has revealed.
Across the UK, 29% (13.8m) of adults viewed pornographic content online in May 2024.
The statistics show more than 430,000 adults here visited “pornographic content services” online in May 2024
Northern Ireland was the UK nation with the highest online adult reach, with 34% (431k), followed by Wales (32%, 694k), Scotland (30%, 1.2m) and England (29%, 11.5m).
It means more than one third of the adult population viewed the content online during the time frame of the research.
The statistics came as part of Ofcom’s annual Online Nation report which examines people’s online habits and how they are served by online content providers and platforms.
That same report also found that Northern Ireland is one of only two UK regions where a local news title reaches more than half the population online — with the Belfast Telegraph also being the third most-visited service here.
According to the figures, adults in Northern Ireland spent an average of four hours and 16 minutes a day online, with Google the most used website in Northern Ireland.
Meanwhile WhatsApp was the most popular app – used by more than nine in ten adults.
