Toronto Police have identified four-month-old Azuri Bacchas as the victim of a homicide for which his mother has been charged with second-degree murder.

Cops were called to an apartment building in the area of Roselawn and Marlee Aves. on Nov. 20, around 11:25 a.m., after the victim’s father called to report his baby missing.

Officers arrived on scene and located the infant with critical, life-threatening injuries and performed life saving measures and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Karessa Edwards, 30, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after initially being charged with failure to provide the necessaries of life.

The charges were upgraded following an autopsy.

Azuri Bacchas is the city’s 79th murder victim of the year.
