Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has made it clear he harbours no grudge against Ed Sheeran – despite Sunday’s controversy.

After a 1-1 draw between the Red Devils and Ipswich Town at Portman Road, Sheeran sparked a backlash by gatecrashing Amorim’s post-match interview.

The new United boss looked stunned as the singer exchanged pleasantries with Jamie Redknapp.

Sheeran has since apologised for his actions after football fans criticised the Ipswich superfan for his behaviour.

Yet Amorim harbours no grudge against the 33-year-old and insisted the situation had been blown up out of proportion.

“In England you over complicate things. In Portugal it is so different,” he said ahead of United’s showdown with Bodo/Glimt on Thursday night.

“He was just saying hello to one of the commentators and it was nothing.

“I was with Roy Keane and he is one of the stars. It was nothing, it’s OK.”

Sheeran, in his apology, said he had acted like a ‘b***end’ and that he didn’t realise Amorim was being interviewed at the time.

Writing on social media, he said: “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn’t actually realise he was being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie.

“Obvz feel a bit of a b***end but life goes on. Great game though, congrats on all involved.”

Amorim will be hoping to guide United to a first win of his tenure when they face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday.

The club have struggled in the competition and were winless in Europe prior to Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

However, they did beat PAOK 2-0 under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy with Amad Diallo netting a brilliant brace.

United are poised to welcome defender Lisandro Martinez back for the clash at Old Trafford.

Yet Amorim also confirmed that Harry Maguire was still sidelined through injury as the showdown approaches.

“Not Harry. Licha is ready,” the 39-year-old said when asked about the pair.

“He didn’t stop [playing] too much time so I feel he is ready. It is a different situation with Harry, we need them both but they are in a different situation.

“They are both training, Harry soon will be on the pitch also.”

Defender Leny Yoro is yet to play an official match for United since his arrival from Lille back in the summer.

Amorim, when quizzed in the young defender, added: “He is available to train but we are working on his fitness. This is important.

“He is a young guy, this is a massive club. It’s very important the first image, so we will try to put it together because he’s a great talent.

“We believe a lot in him and we are trying to prepare the best way to start with Leny.”
