GB News presenter Andrew Pierce has slammed the decision to close London’s historic Smithfield Market, calling it “terrible” and criticising the move to “turn their back on hundreds of years of history.”

Fellow presenter Bev Turner urged Britons to visit the iconic market before its closure, sharing her personal experiences of early morning visits to Billingsgate Fish Market.

“Go before it closes because it is an amazing experience and it is so British at its heart,” Turner said, recalling memories of buying “big bags of prawns” and noting the unique atmosphere of local pubs opening at 5am for market workers.

The closure decision was confirmed yesterday by the City of London Corporation.

The historic market, which has operated since the 10th century, will cease operations in 2028 after the City’s Court of Common Council voted to end plans for its relocation.
