Northern Irish actor James Nesbitt will appear in a new series which is set for release on New Year’s Day.

Following the monumental success of Harlan Coben’s drama Fool Me Once at the beginning of the year, featuring Michelle Keegan, it didn’t take long for Netflix bosses to reveal plans to adapt a further two of Coben’s award-winning novels.

Netflix shared the news back in January that Missing You and Run Away would be the next to hit Netflix, and now the trailer has finally landed for Missing You, with Coben describing it at his “most gripping” drama yet.

“There’s nothing quite like the shock of stumbling on an old flame on a dating app,” a description of the show on Netflix says.

“When it happens to Detective Kat Donovan, seeing her ex-fiancé’s face again forces her to revisit old wounds … and buried secrets.

“That’s exactly what you’ll find in Missing You, the new mystery-thriller from Harlan Coben.”

The limited series, which will be released on New Year’s Day, features the author’s signature blend of twists, turns, and surprises that will have you on your toes until the very end.

Missing You, adapted from Coben’s novel of the same name, is the author’s latest on-screen collaboration with Netflix, following other must-see series like Stay Close, Fool Me Once, and The Stranger.

The limited series was produced by Quay Street Productions. Coben serves as an executive producer on the project, alongside Nicola Shindler, Richard Fee, Danny Brocklehurst, and Victoria Asare-Archer, who’s also the series’ writer.

It was announced in November that Missing You will land on Wednesday 1 January 2025.

The show’s synopsis says: “Eleven years ago Detective Kat Donovan’s fiancé Josh – the love of her life – disappeared and she’s never heard from him since. Now, swiping profiles on a dating app, she suddenly sees his face and her world explodes all over again.

“Josh’s reappearance will force her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.”

Speaking to Digital Spy at the National Television Awards, Harlan said: “I think it may be my most gripping, and the ending will not only surprise you. In fact, I recently re-watched it, I was completely fooled by the ending – and I wrote it.

“But I think you’ll genuinely be moved. Tell me if you shed a tear at the last episode of Missing You.”
