Millions of UK households are being urged to check their eligibility for the £150 Warm Home Discount scheme before the crucial February 2025 deadline.

The support is specifically targeted at those on low incomes and Pension Credit recipients, offering much-needed financial relief during the colder season.

Energy experts at Your NRG have issued a warning to ensure families don’t miss out on this vital support during the winter months.

The £150 support comes as a direct credit to electricity bills, with the money paid straight to energy providers rather than individuals.

For households with the same supplier for both gas and electricity, there may be flexibility in applying the credit to the gas bill instead.

The payment system varies depending on meter type, with special arrangements for those using alternative payment methods.

Pay As You Go and Prepayment meter customers will receive their support in the form of a voucher, which can be used to top up their meters.

This arrangement ensures the support remains accessible to all eligible households, regardless of their payment method.

Significant changes to eligibility rules were implemented in 2022, meaning some previous recipients may no longer qualify for the scheme.

Conversely, new households might now be eligible but need to actively apply if they don’t receive the discount automatically.

Experts strongly recommend checking individual energy provider websites to confirm when the scheme opens and whether any action is required.

Eligible households should receive a notification letter between October and January 2025, detailing their status and any required actions.

Those who haven’t received correspondence by January are advised to contact their supplier or the WHD helpline promptly.

“If you haven’t received this letter by January, check with your supplier or the WHD helpline. Don’t wait until it’s too late, as you may miss out on the £150 credit if action isn’t taken by February 28, 2025,” experts warn.

The timing of this support is particularly crucial as energy costs continue to rise.

The experts said: “With the energy price cap set to rise by 10 per cent this month, it’s more important than ever to ensure you’re accessing all available support.”

Scottish residents should note they may be entitled to additional support through the £58.75 Winter Heating Payment.

There’s also a £151.50 Child Winter Heating Payment available for eligible low-income and disabled households in Scotland.
