The coveted title of IT Professional of the Year went to Dr Jonathan Sinclair, chief technical officer at Inclutech, a company that seeks to build software to aid people in vulnerable or neglected groups in society.

Reflecting on judging an “incredibly difficult category,” the judges said: “Dr Jonathan Sinclair from Inclutech emerged as the ultimate winner, demonstrating exemplar leadership, his ability to develop key strategic relationships and secure funding for important projects including the TapDA project, for covert domestic abuse reporting.

“There was a clear link between Jonathan’s leadership and the positive improvements experienced by customers.”

Dr Sinclair said he has wanted to work in IT for most of his life. “I decided to pursue a career in IT during primary school, inspired by my father working in IT. I was fascinated by how computers worked and loved opening up old machines to tinker and explore.

“Those early experiences sparked a passion that steadily grew into a clear career path. I was captivated by the creativity, innovation, and research in IT, which ultimately led me to pursue a doctorate and contribute meaningfully to the field.”

He believes that success in the field “requires a mix of technical expertise and soft skills”.

“The ability to adapt to change is critical since the tech landscape evolves so rapidly.

“Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn are essential to stay ahead. Collaboration and communication are equally important because IT projects often involve cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

“For my role, leadership, strategic thinking, and a focus on user-centric design are key to delivering impactful solutions for everyone.
